About the German Islam Conference ,
Since 2006, the German Islam Conference (DIK) has been the Federal Government’s main forum for dialogue and cooperation with Muslims and their various representations in Germany. The Conference also facilitates and enlivens exchange and understanding within the Muslim community.
In doing so, it helps Muslims to feel accepted and more at home in Germany. The Conference is an essential part of the Federal Ministry of the Interior and Community’s and the Federal Government’s policy on social cohesion.
In its foundational phase (from the 16th to the 18th parliamentary term), recommendations and joint declarations were made in key areas of religious policy (e.g. Islamic chaplaincy and social welfare work, and Islamic religious instruction and Islamic theology).
Since the 19th parliamentary term, the Conference has been building upon this foundation by working on concrete, practical projects. It has been doing this using flexible structures, alternating event formats and constellations appropriate to the subject areas in question (the "implementation phase" of the Conference). The Conference involves a broad and diverse range of participants from Muslim national federations, new initiatives outside of traditional mosque structures, individual Muslims, policy-makers and public administration officials as well as representatives from the research community.
